Pinnacle Food Confirms Human Lactoferrin Production in First Fermentation Test

DENVER, Colo. (247marketnews.com) -- Pinnacle Food Group (NASDAQ:PFAI) is moving its biotechnology ambitions beyond the laboratory flask and announced that its wholly owned subsidiary, Pinnacle Food AgTech HK, completed its first bench-scale fermentation of a yeast strain designed to produce recombinant human lactoferrin (rhLF), with laboratory testing confirming expression of the target protein.

The experiment used a 5-liter fermenter and methanol-free Pichia fermentation technology developed through Pinnacle’s research collaboration with Bioboost Synbio Consulting. The company said high-performance liquid chromatography, protein gel electrophoresis and immunoblotting supported confirmation of rhLF expression.

The methanol-free approach is a central part of the story. Conventional methanol-based fermentation can present process-safety and operational challenges, while alternative production systems may offer manufacturing advantages. Whether Pinnacle’s method ultimately delivers a meaningful cost or efficiency benefit will depend on further process development and comparative data.

The market opportunity is potentially attractive. Lactoferrin is an iron-binding protein naturally present in milk, including human milk, and is used in nutritional products and supplements. Recombinant production could offer another way to manufacture the ingredient, subject to product characterization, safety evaluation, regulatory requirements and customer acceptance. Structural similarity to human lactoferrin alone does not establish equivalent biological function or suitability for every application.

CEO Jiulong You called the milestone “an important step for our biotech program,” adding that it gives the team “a solid foundation for the next phase of work as we evaluate the path toward scale-up.”
