DENVER, Colo. (247marketnews.com) -- Swvl Holdings Corp. (NASDAQ:SWVL) is putting fresh money behind an increasingly aggressive ambition: turn a fast-growing enterprise mobility platform into a bigger U.S. business.
The company announced a $13 million private placement, led by Houston-based Coefficient LP, which is backed by the Sawiris family of Egypt. Coefficient is committing $10 million, while an existing shareholder is adding another $3 million. Upon closing, Coefficient is expected to become Swvl's largest institutional shareholder, and Coefficient founder and managing partner Abdalla Ali will join Swvl's board. The transaction is expected to close August 27.
The timing is notable because Swvl enters the raise with operating momentum already building. In the first quarter, revenue jumped 68% year over year to $8.2 million, while GCC revenue surged 111% to $3.6 million. Gross profit climbed 63% to $1.6 million, and the operating loss shrank 71% to $174,000. Operating expenses fell to 23% of revenue from 34% a year earlier.
Just as important, Swvl says 88% of revenue was recurring, net dollar retention reached 114%, and dollar-pegged revenue rose to 44% of the total. Those figures suggest the company is trying to build something more durable than a traditional ride-hailing operation: an enterprise transportation infrastructure business built around software, managed mobility and long-term contracts.
CEO Mostafa Kandil framed the opportunity bluntly: “We view this investment as powering Swvl’s next chapter, cutting the ribbon on the U.S. market as we have just started our U.S. operations.”
That U.S. push is where the new capital could become the biggest catalyst. Swvl says proceeds will fund American expansion, launch a lending offering for transportation operators and partners, and reinforce its balance sheet as it pursues multi-year enterprise and government contracts.
The Sawiris family's involvement adds another layer of credibility and strategic firepower. Onsi Sawiris said, “Our family has always backed builders”, while Coefficient's Abdalla Ali described Swvl as turning transportation into “intelligent, managed infrastructure.”
